Meet the Spiritual Self
We visited the Spiritual self in her home. She had just finished meditating when we arrived and appeared calm and peaceful. She invited us into her living space – a light and spacious room with a meditation alter in one corner and glorious views to the surrounding gardens from the large windows.

Spiritual self, I’m curious as to what do you do for a living? I teach meditation classes and see people for spiritual healing.

Do you have a favourite holiday destination? Over the years I’ve travelled to many of the ancient spiritual sites around the world. I also like to visit places of great natural beauty and simply soak up the energy.

What would be your favourite Sunday breakfast? After some yoga, meditation and prayer, I have freshly squeezed juice, home made muesli and green tea. I tend to have this meal most days.

What kind of books do you read?  I’ve read many of the great spiritual texts from many traditions. Some of my favourites however include Play of Consciousness by Swami Muktananda, The Bible, I Am That by Nisargadatta Maharaj, the works of Pema Chodron.

Do you watch television or see movies? I don’t watch TV any more as much of it I find quite violent and negative. I do enjoy inspirational movies which lift the human spirit.

And how about music? What do you listen to? I really like some of the meditation and chanting CDs available. I also enjoy some types of classical music, and New Age music with nature sounds.

Do you have any sense of how your friends would describe you? As wise and centred, but some of my old friends believe I’m a bit boring now. I do lead a very predictable life by some people’s standards but I’m simply not interested in much of what goes on in the world.
